Whimpers of a Midnight Voyeur

fool on a hillOn top of this magnificent hill I whimper.

I was lying on my back, on top of the cool green mass of freshly cut grass. Parallel to my view was the city I have begun to love. So laid-back and quite friendlier than the city of angels, the one I used to call my second home.

Its lights were beginning to fade under the shade of the midnight sun, its vibrant glow started to dim under the enveloping glitter of the early morning fog and the rise of the stars and galaxies directly above it.

I put the weight of my body under my back to where gravity lies. The worries of the superficial might and the constant bicker that flows on my inner psyche channels itself outwardly, further releasing the strains on my physical being.

I look up to where I can see the constellations. I gaze beyond Aquarius, far distant than the belt of Orion. I thought about the pyramids and the early watchers who helped build magnificent works of arts in tremendous proportions.

I saw what always looked like a small rosary that reminded me of my early childhood as a servant of the Church. Back when I was an altar boy, when I was a member of our church choir, and as a devoted member of the Legion of Mary.

Now I seldom do these things. But my personal relationship with the One had matured deeply.

And this, quite voyeuristic as it can be, is more of a religious exercise than just an appreciation of heavenly beauty. It is more of a spiritual enrichment rather than just physical re-alignment.

As I continue to gaze outside of the peripheral view of the earth, observing the poetic motion of the moon, and the endless orgies of stars and the known galaxies known to men, I can’t help but be overjoyed with the beauty of it all.

It was so beautiful, a million ways more beautiful than a classic Van Gogh, the sheer pleasure of watching it made me a sissy little fool on a hill I whimper.
